Dudley - Karen (Marvin) McKinney 74 died peacefully March 5, 2015 at UMASS after a courageous battle with cancer. Her husband of 36 years, John McKinney passed in 2001.
She leaves two sons: Jay McKinney and his wife Kim of Dudley and Todd McKinney and his wife Jennifer of Woodstock, CT. one sister: Leslie Sloane of Villages, FLA. Karen was a proud grandmother to Stephanie , Jacob and Zoe.
She was born in Medford MA the daughter of the late Richard and the late Amy (Bergstrom) Marvin. Karen graduated from Lexington High School and Emerson College .She was a dedicated educator at Dudley Elementary school retiring in 2002 after 40 years of service. She worked many Dudley town elections and was active in the Republican Party. She loved teaching and went back to substitute teach in her retirement. Karen enjoyed traveling spending time at the ocean and many summers spent with her family in Jamestown RI.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 9 at 11 AM in Holy Trinity Church, 446 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will be at a later date in Waldron Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday March 8th from 4 to 7 PM at Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley . In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or you can support your local Relay for Life representative in her honor. www.bartelfuneralhome.com for her condolence book.
